From Antioch to Vallejo

Our day started at around 8am, where we pushed off the Guest dock at Antioch and headed towards Berkeley.

One last photo at Antioch Marina.
It was chilly this morning, not at all like the weather up in the delta!

 Jan working on the post.

Look who's here!  It's Trim's "sister!"  Same design, Chris Craft/Sparksman-Stevens center cockpit, just without the hard dodger we have.

"Aloha" to Antioch Marina and staff, they were really great!

Jan reading up on sights to see, things to do in Berkeley!

Passing a salt-processing plant.  Look at that HUGE mountain of salt!
I can feel my blood pressure going up already.

Large monster cranes lifting huge rolls of steel out of the hold of this enormous freighter.

Space ships?  Nope, just exhaust stacks from a propane-fueled electric plant.

A fishing boat, towing his net.

Approaching our first bridge.

Jan totally focused on making sure she goes between the red and green channel markers!

Just one of the locals we passed 30 feet from.  He didn't seem too concerned with us.

Another local.  Sorry I cut the top of the photo off, but we were getting bashed by some strong wind waves!

Coast Guard on his way to assist someone...

A mighty tug boat secured to his barge in the strong current.

A most courteous tug boat, radio'd us to say he'd slow down so his wake wouldn't affect us.
"Thank you Mr. Tugboat, much appreciated...out."

Passing underneath the highway.
Looks closer than it actually was!

A shot of the bay...funny that a bay can get so rough with the outgoing tide, and headwinds of 25+ kts!
HEY, there's Mr. Pelican!

Ker-SPLASH!
Save the camera!

Wind speed indicator showed a steady 25 kts, with puffs of 30 kts!

After some discussion (but not a lot!) we decided to hang a right turn into the Mares Island channel and the Vallejo Marina to get some rest and wait out the tide change and get a fresh start in the morning.

Solace AT LAST!  In the channel of Mares Island, and a shot of the closed miliary shipyard.  We saw a submarine's con-tower sitting in the dry dock area.

On the Guest dock at Vallejo Marina, with Paul's bike that he will take on his bus ride back to Napa to get the Eurovan that will take us to Truckee and Dr. Jack's place!

But first, we have to eat and recharge!

Stay tuned, more to come!

But right now, as Paul is on the bus, I will head back to Trim (got her registered at the Harbor Master's office) and get a well-deserved nap...if only I can feel like I'm not moving anymore!
:o)
