On the Hook at Neah Bay

The boys have faithfully been sending the progress everyday at noon via the Spot2 locator.  Talked to Paul today, after I arrived in the 93-degree heat of Phoenix and he said it took them 11 hours to reach Neah Bay from Fishermans Bay.  They had some big "rollers" coming at them, so they needed to slow their progress down a bit after a few waves washed over the bow.  All good, TrimmingOut took it in stride and the water gracefully drained off the deck and nothing got wet.

Here's the link to show their "mark" from noon yesterday, 9/12/2011:

If you zoom out on the map, you will see Lopez Island:  this is to the right of the "hook" on the south end of San Juan Island, which is where Friday Harbor is located.

Paul was surprised when I told him that they had been sailing on the Canadian side of the strait!  The Strait of Juan de Fuca is approximately 95 miles long and the gateway to the Pacific ocean between a break in the Olympic Mountains.

After speaking with the Paul and giving him today's marine weather forecast  (I check 4 different sites and he calls me for it at 10am each day), the boys are re-doing the reef lines and staying warm.  They had a nice hot dinner last night, built a nice fire in the fireplace (Paul slept in the forward bunk and Tom had the aft cabin) and this morning I heard Tom made a pretty awesome omelette in the electric skillet.  There's lots of coffee, chai tea, spiced apple cider and hot chocolate to keep them warm, as they wait out the fog.

Next Spot-comm will be tomorrow at noon.

Stay tuned!
