Labor Day Weekend at Isla Glass

Labor Day weekend is a big time for artists to open up their studios to the tourists that flock to Lopez and the other San Juan Islands.

I had the opportunity to work this past Monday in the studio, greeting visitors and answering any questions, and to also watch Oliver Doriss, a Venetian goblet master.

Just some of the goblets that were made Sunday, and were cool enough to bring out to the floor on Monday.

Oliver incorporated Rahman's signature conch shell into his design, along with some seagrass.

Oliver workin' it.

The finished product. Beautiful!
This is a process that took 3 people, and had to be timed exactly.  Sort of like a dance, specially choreographed.

A big Mahalo to Rahman Anderson for giving me the opportunity to work at Isla Glass and to able to see such artistry!
